Dr. Leopold Liss

I am delighted to present the core elements of a flexible strategy – called ART – that can improve the quality of life for patients with dementia, their families, and caregivers.

Caring for someone who has dementia is an extremely difficult and demanding task.  Our goal in providing the information and comments in these DVD video and CD audio book sets is to offer some tips that might prove useful to anyone who interacts with a person who has Alzheimer disease.

Many times, perspective and greater awareness can help caregivers reduce the stress they experience.  These tips are intended to help ease communication between the caregiver and the patient, which will help create a calmer, more positive environment.  Because each Alzheimer patient is unique and different, some ideas will work better for some people than others.

When interacting with persons experiencing Alzheimer disease, strategies must be flexible and easily adjustable for changing circumstances.  ART is: Accommodation dictated by reason and circumstances, Respect at all times, and Tolerance which we must force ourselves to learn and to practice.  We must use environment, not drugs, as much as possible.

Alzheimer disease has not read any of the text books we’ve written. Since every patient is unique, the disease will be unpredictable, and you will be surprised!
